Identifying Types of Corrosion
Different types of corrosion in pipe systems, their identification and remediation using GEBO products.
- Brown discoloration on pipe
- Rust blisters under the surface
- Pitting corrosion (small deep holes)
- Verdigris on copper pipes
- Surface material degradation
- Brown water when first turned on
- Oxygen exposure on unprotected metal surfaces
- Contact corrosion (different metals in contact)
- Crevice corrosion in threaded connections
- Aggressive water (low pH)
- Stagnation (standing water)
- Missing or damaged galvanization
- 1Visual inspection of pipe surface
- 2Material identification (magnet test, color)
- 3Check for contact between different metals
- 4Water analysis (pH, conductivity, chloride)
- 5Pressure test for tightness
- 6Remove pipe section and measure wall thickness
- Replace corroded pipe section with GEBO clamp connectors
- Repair clamp (GEBO Unifix) for localized corrosion damage
- Contact corrosion: material transition with GEBO brass connectors
- Geboliquid for micro-leaks caused by corrosion
- Address systemic causes (water treatment, material selection)
